“USGBC’s Building A Greener Colorado”
Colorado’s Premier Green Building Conference & Expo
Namaste Solar has been invited to speak at this premier event. Our educational session will focus on “Solar Economics for Buildings.”

The session reviews the federal tax incentives and local utility subsides available for solar photovoltaic arrays installed on buildings in Colorado. Tax incentives outlined in the Energy Policy Act of 2005 combine with local utility rebates and renewable energy credit payments to mitigate the cost of investment capital required for the successful implementation of a solar photovoltaic project. The impact of property tax assessments, liability insurance, ordinary income tax on utility subsides, and financing structures are weighed against the federal and state incentives for solar. Solar Power Purchase Agreements are discussed with an emphasis of Xcel Energy's 3rd Party Development option. Multiple economic metrics for evaluating solar investments on buildings are employed, but special attention is paid to an investment's internal rate of return. Industrial, commercial, retail, and mixed-use building scenarios are examined as case studies.
